Guess what? There is an alternative to that big, carb-laden sub. The best thing about it is that it comes without the carbs. Yes! It’s a no-bread alternative that satisfies the craving just the same.

It’s called pickle subs. In this yummy alternative, bread is replaced by two large slices of picked cucumbers. Great idea, right?

“Pickle subs” require swapping bread for large pickle slices so you can still enjoy a sandwich without the carbs. It’s way more inventive than a lettuce wrap!”

Sounds yummy, especially for pickle lovers out there. This a sub-style sandwich minus the bread. It’s definitely a must try. There’s no need to skimp on mayo, ham, cheese, mustard, and tomatoes since it’s a no-carb alternative. It’s a delicious looking-meal that’s totally guilt-free to indulge in.

It’s pretty easy to make as well. Just take two large pickles.

“… slice and core them and then layer mayo, mustard, ham, cheese and tomato in between to create a sub-style sandwich.”

The most important thing is to core the pickles. That way, it will be a lot easier to layer the different kinds of fillings that usually go in a sub sandwich. One thing is for sure, pickle subs are delicious-looking meals. For one who is craving for a regular sub sandwich, a pickle sub will definitely satisfy the craving.  One would not even miss bread.

Here’s a short video of how to make pickled subs:

These pickle subs are definitely great for snacks and appetizers. Pickle subs can easily level up one’s packed lunch. The sky’s the limit when filling up these pickle subs. Aside from the usual fillings, like ham, cheese, and tomato, one can add more. It really depends on one’s personal preference

These pickle subs are not to be ignored. Why? Well, aside from the obvious reason that they taste really good, there’s a ton of health benefits one can reap from eating pickles.

Health Benefits of Pickles

Pickled cucumbers are really great for the health. Whether, they’re dill pickles, kosher dill pickles, or simple pickled cucumbers, their ingredients and health benefits are pretty much the same.  One thing is for sure, the choices are not limited for pickled subs.

1. Pickles Retain Their Nutrients

Why are pickled cucumbers good for the health? Like any pickled vegetable, cucumbers retain their nutrients even as they undergo the process of production. No heat is involved in the production of pickles. Hence, nutrients such as potassium, fiber, natural protein, and calcium are retained.

2. Fermentation Adds More Nutrients to Pickles

Those are just a few nutrients of pickles. Since pickles undergo the process of fermentation, more nutrients are added. B vitamins are produced as lactobacillus bacteria aids in the fermentation process.  The lactobacillus bacteria, not only helps in the production of B vitamins; it also keeps the digestive tract healthy.

The probiotic bacteria in lactobacillus does wonders for the health. As a matter of fact, Healthline.com states that it can help lower cholesterol levels, keep the gut healthy, and most importantly, promote weight loss.

3. Has Metabolism Boosting Properties

Another fat burning ingredient that comes with every bottle of pickled cucumbers is vinegar. Since vinegar contains acidic acid, it is known to boost metabolism to burn more fat.

With all the health benefits of pickles, it just makes so much sense to use them as alternatives to bread.

Picked slices can also be used to replace the bread in a classic Reuben sandwich. With that simple but healthy replacement, it’s a lot easier to create a low-carb Reuben sandwich since there’s no need to spend some time grilling some bread slices.

With the pickled slices, there’s probably no need to add anymore sauerkraut but then that would really depend on one’s preference. One thing is for sure, replacing bread with pickle slices can help lessen the carb intake.

Take a look at this yummy low-carb version of a tuna sandwich.

“A version from Wicked Stuffed also highlights how using pickle slices can upgrade a regular tuna salad sandwich. This recipe suggests adding fresh dill to go along with the salt and pepper. Yum-my.”

Whether they’re pickle chips or slices, they can pretty much replace bread. That’s good for folks who can’t resist the temptation of eating a sandwich. Replacing bread with some pickle chips or slices can definitely lower one’s carb intake.

Pickles go a long, long way. They’re not just great replacement for bread, they can also add as delicious fillings to wraps.

“Plus, look at how adorable this version looks in a kid’s lunchbox. All it requires is some turkey, American cheese and a little mayo to wrap around the pickle slices.”

That turkey wrap does not require any tortilla that could be loaded with a lot of crabs. With a pickle in the middle as main filling, it just gives a blast of amazing flavors. Thanks to pickles, it’s quite easy to say good bye to bread.
